Kung Fu is a generic term for martial arts which originated from China. The art of Kung Fu is a diverse form of martial arts with over one thousand styles world wide, encompassing both ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ styles. Developed over thousands of years ago in China, Kung Fu still holds great importance in Chinese culture today. Its popularity has been exposed to the wider world through Chinese and Hollywood martial arts movies.
The style we teach at Jin Wu Koon is the Shaolin Double Dragon style. This style was handed to Master Cheuk Fai Chan by his father, Grand-Master Chan Keng Wan who learned from four different Masters, one of whom was from the famed Shaolin Temple. With the knowledge and skills acquired, Grand-Master Chan Keng Wan developed the renowned Jin Wu Koon Double Dragon Shaolin style. Inheriting this style from his father, Master Cheuk Fai Chan further tailored the style from his own fighting experience in karate, boxing and kickboxing. The end result is a practical style of kung fu which can be effectively used as self-defence. It separates itself from many other styles of kung fu that are aesthetically developed for competition, like Wushu but are not of practical use.
