The art of Chinese Lion Dance embodies the beauty, culture and history of ancient China. It is a practice that combines Martial arts with performance arts, where the gestures and movements that closely mimic the emotion of the mystical animal tell the story behind each performance.

The performers must undergo rigorous training to develop these skills and to learn the many movements used to make the lion appear alive and strong. They must also learn to play the instruments, namely the drums, cymbals and gong that are used to accompany the lion and to direct its movements during the dance.

Now the art of lion dance has developed into a dangerous and high intensity sport. Ranging from 1m to 3m poles in a maximum of 15m in length, the lion will perform many stunts in its quest to find the “cing” or the green vegetable.

The Jin Wu Koon lion dance troupe performs at a high competition standard and has earned its name as one of the best in New South Wales. Our lion dancers compete internationally in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong, to name a few places. They are available for bookings and undertake all types of performances from the more traditional and common lion dance to the difficult performance on the high poles.
